Teletype: Jean Paul Gaultier for Target.
Now it’ official Jean Paul Gaultier is making a capsule collection for the American Target. I can’t say that it was unexpected (there rumors were out there for quite a long time now) but I still think that it’s a great surprise that JPG has decided to collaborate with Target (note that he did not work with the Swedish clothing brand H&M).
This collection will hit the shelves on March 7th and will be available only in 250 Target stores in USA.
Despite the fact that Gaultier is not going to bring back alive his iConic bras and fishnet tights (so adored by Madonna back in 80-ies), the upcoming collection will certainly make up for the Target clothing range and most probably even drive new fashion-aware customers to the 250 selected stores this spring!
Who knows who’s going to be the face for the ad campaign – Kate Perry maybe? or Rihanna? We’ll see in couple of months.
Ungaro + Lohan =???
I heard a lot of talking about the recent addition to the Ungaro house, namely about their new employee – Lindsay Lohan. I am not a fan of her movies, neither I am a fan of her sense of style – only if constantly wearing a pair of leggings is considered as a sense of style at all… Usually I don’t tend to criticize people and the way they dress but this time it’s different – she is an “artistic advisor” of the house…hmmm in other words she will actually try to influence the way other people dress – fashion-aware people. The whole idea I think was a failure from the beginning. If you have got a limited imagination in what concerns your own style then how in the world she can “CREATIVELY” advise???
And there we are…(and I even find it hilarious) models on the runway wearing HEARTS not only on their dresses and jackets but on their foreheads!!!
What can I say? Halloween is only a week away… The Queen of Hearts from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland will be jealous…if you wear one of those forehead stickers…
Nonsense, absolute nonsense! Why doing this to us? Huh Ungaro?
On the brighter side, there was one thing that caught my attention is the nipple glitter stickers… They really looked nice with a black blazer.
Please, anyone, explain why Ungaro ever hired her?
The only thing that I can think of is that Ungaro house needed an immediate media attention and a bust of PR… and they got it! But not sure that this will help them to sell more stuff or to become more powerful on the fashion Olympe.
Wallpaper?
I am usually very skeptical when it comes to wall decor – I never know what to choose wall-paint or wallpaper? The last one seemed to me old fashioned – a part of my grandma’s apartment in the center of European city M. Things change drastically with time. Now I find it cute and adorable when somebody I know use wallpapers. However it is still very demanding way to decorate the walls of your room…
What I like about today’s fashion is that many of talented designers are trying themselves in different fields – for example, perfumery, beauty products or interior decor of cars and airplanes. But designer home supplies are still quite limited, here I am mostly talking about those fashion clothes designers such as Hermes, Ralph Laurent, Lanvin…
Rarely there are exceptions – and certain designers do get involved in home decorations. This time it is Vivienne Westwood. Her collaboration with English wallpaper brand Cole&Son has resulted in a beautiful range of wallpaper creations inspired (or better say taken directly from) by her “Autumn-Winter 81/82 Pirate collection and the more recent Cut-Out Lace from the Spring-Summer 07 I am Expensiv collection.”
If you are in “renovation” mood then this range is totally worth your consideration – high fashion and quality combination is the killer this season! (and there is one retailer point in Mississauga, Canada)

Lipstick for men – NARS
First I want to say that I am 100% pro-gay, I think that everyone has the right to choose: whether it’s their choice of food, cloths or sexual orientation. It’s really none of my business who loves whom… I mean if you like guys it’s fine with me either you are a girl or a boy!
On the other hand, I think that there is some extend to which I can understand how the male/female image changes over time! What I mean by that is, indeed, this “new” tendency to switch identities – when women try to mimic men and otherwise. Let me explain what I wan to say in some more details.
According to me (and I think that my interpretation is the common one), there are certain stereotypes which are associated with either of two sexes, something like girls wear pink and boys – blue. These days people tend to break as many stereotypes as they possibly can – the perfect example is men wearing high heel shoes (and no, these shoes were not meant to be man’s shoes, they are from woman’s collections). I don’t want to judge people, I love freedom of expression – you can wear what you want and where you want! But sometimes the whole identity swap just gets to me – like the ad campaign for 15th anniversary of cosmetic brand Nars where Marc Jacobs appears wearing red lipstick and nail polish… This is still not clear in my head… You people are so uncomfortable in the skin they are in??? (Does it ring the bell?) May be there will be time when I will get it but not now! I respect people who can shine through the stereotypes and don’t cross the boundaries of ridiculousness…

Fur Question
I have a friend who recently asked me about the way she could wear her fur coat… She wasn’t even sure if she would ever wear it in public. When? Where? and the most important question here is HOW?
I immediately fired at her that she MUST wear it and that it was almost a crime not to wear it. (as a side note: I adore animals and if there is a way I can stop people from killing these adorable creature, I will do it! But I think that my refusal to wear the fur will in no way prevent the kill of poor animals. It’s been over thousand years that humans wear fur and…at least for now I can’t change the society)
OK, back to my discussion.
What really interests me is how many ways there are to wear your fur coat (or to upgrade your old one). The first and most obvious thing which will instantly change the look of your coat is (of cause) a belt: choose the one with metal studs and you will get an edgier style with a rock’n'roll vibe, choose a classic belt and there you have a classic style, choose a thin and patent leather belt and here you go – a coat with a slight feminine touch! These are only a few of the variations with which I can come up right now, but if you give it a deeper thought – you can make up your unique way to wear a coat with your unique belt.
The next thing is the sleeves. You can roll then up and get the 3/4 length – to show off your gloves. If you are ready to get to the extreme measures with your coat then you can just cut them off and get a cool sleeveless jacket… like this one
on the picture.
You can make the shoulders bigger – in the 80′ies style, however this particular modification requires that the entire wardrobe conceptually matches the coat – there is a huge chance that the coat by itself will look just ridiculous rather than stylish! So watch out with shoulders!
What else? I can think of adding some cool brooches (bot they must be proportional – not too small and not too big). I like the ones that combine small and big chains may be in different colors.
Over all , I think that the idea of a fur coat is coming back this season (at least in my wardrobe). As a funny example of how fur affect today’s style is this Opening ceremony collection for the release of the Where The Wild Things Are book this October where furs (even though faux ones) are in the center of attention…

My lovely trip to NYC
These past two weeks were so rough that I could never imagined it could have thought it can get! The things went out of control when I had to submit 2 assignments in one day and the next day I had a midterm! (Well it wouldn’t be sooo outrageous if I did not have to attend my best friend’s birthday bash two days before the deadline) There I was trying to study for everything, doing my catch ups for 3 different classes!
So it was very natural for me to somehow reward myself for the tremendous effort I did while stressing for my exams – I decided to go to… NYC!
There is nothing better that just a spontaneous trip to New York City, especially when you have nothing to wear and have a budget of a 10-years-old on vacation!
And there I was standing on Bleecker street on Friday night! The Greenwich Village is my favorite place in NYC (I should say that I value SoHo as well but conceptually GV i closer to me). All of the shops that I rate the most are located in this area (may be only the Opening ceremony requires a bit of walking from GV).
GV. I love it when it’s dark and it’s equally adorable in the morning, with its small and cozy cafe’s and petits restos. Well, it’s very difficult to describe the atmosphere that reins there…it’s very close the feeling you get when you’ walking the old streets of Paris (but may be much much more crowded). My verdict is to just go there and experience it yourself.
My primary goal for this trip wasn’t shopping (yes, it might sound strange to you, but it’s true), rather it was to get distracted from all I have going on back here in M. And it worked soooo well that now sitting at uni and writing all this I just feel so overwhelmed and sad that I am no longer able to just go out side and be a part of THE CITY!
However, I couldn’t resist going to the Marc by Marc Jacobs store…
…and there I was standing on Saturday night in the line to get one of the “special items”…
Across the street there is a lovely small Lulu Guinness boutique – I am determined to get her lips clutch the next time I am in NYC.
